About the Event
These classes are only for students that attend Maple Creek Middle School! Classes take place at the school!
6 Session After School Cooking Enrichment
$150-All six dates
The purpose of the cooking enrichment is to inspire kids to be creative with food and to learn essential cooking skills as they get closer to independence! This program will also help kids explore if they would like to consider the culinary tract at the high school! Students are encouraged to eat what they make, and may also bring home what they don't! Lessons are hands on and will be limited to ensure the quality of the class. Please fill out the waiting list if you did not get in on the first session, because if there is enough interest expressed, another session can be added!
Jan 10-Pizza from Scratch
In this class we will make our own pizza dough and sauce. Students will prepare assorted toppings and make their own personal sized pizzas just to their liking! This may not make it home because it is so good, but don't worry we will send the recipe! You may find your kiddo making you pizza for dinner in the future!
In this class we will make breakfast cookies! These cookies only have 4 ingredients in them and are gluten, dairy, egg, and added sugar free! While our cookies are baking we will make banana split sundaes. Instead of ice cream, we will use greek yogurt and offer a variety of toppings for your child to build their own sundae such as granola, coconut, fruit, honey, and mini chocolate chips.
Jan 22-Nailed It
This class is modeled after the Netflix cooking competition, Nailed It! Students will be presented with a finished recipe that they will need to duplicate! They will be given the recipe and all supplies needed and then will compete for best replica! This class is about fun and friendly competition with plenty of supervision! Who will be crowned the winner and claim the right to say, "Nailed It?"
Jan 30-Protein Pasta w/Healthy Homemade Alfredo Sauce, Caeser Salad, and Garlic bread
In this class we will learn how to turn alfredo pasta into a healthy meal, especially for growing kids and athletes! We will make our own alfredo sauce (no jars for us) that contains a secret powerhouse ingredient-cottage cheese. Most kids are skeptical at first, but we have yet to meet a kid that wasn't impressed with this sauce! We use protein packed pasta and serve it with a salad and garlic bread. Your child will learn how to easily throw together the salad and quickly make garlic bread to round out the meal! This is a meal that they should be able to make independently in the future!
Feb 5-Mystery Ingredients Cook Off
In this class students will work in groups to compete for best dish. Each group will be given a basket of ingredients to work with. They must work as a team to be creative and complete the dish without a recipe before the buzzer! Students will learn a few important skills in this class:
-How to work with others on a team and delegate tasks to include everyone.
-How to look at ingredients and come up with a dish. We all do this right before grocery shopping day!
-How to be safe and aware of what is happening around them in the kitchen.
-How to think creatively!
Session 6-Feb 13-Valentine's Day Theme
In this class we will assemble mini 3 tiered cakes. Students will cut out the layers of their cake from premade sheet cakes. We will make homemade buttercream to use in between the layers and they will practice the art of making chocolate filagree to top their cakes!
*Parents should reach out about allergies before registering for a specific class to be sure accomodations can be made. We try our best to accommodate all dietary restrictions/allergies but some recipes may not be possible. Students are always welcome to make the food and take it home for the family to enjoy.
*Classes must meet a minimum enrollment requirement to run.
*Refunds are not available. Your child's enrollment in class holds their spot and prohibits another child from registering. Supplies and ingredients are purchased in advance so refunds will not be issued for illnesses. If there happens to be a waiting list, and we are able to successfully fill your child's spot, a refund can be issued! This does not apply to day of absences. We would only be able to fill your child's spot with plenty of notice ahead of time.
